News from France
One hundred percent wins: that’s how the France Info bulletin started this morning. It concerns two victories in two matches, the first of the Zidane era for the French national team. And indeed (1+1)/2 = 1 i.e. 100%. This is not fake news, but it seems to match that newspaper which, in the runoff between Harris and Trump, had stated “excellent placement for Harris, second in Americans’ preferences: Trump second‑last”, but let’s move on to the news:
Nations League: Zidane launches his new project with a victory over Belgium
Zinedine Zidane has achieved his first success as manager of the French national team, leading a completely renewed squad to a 1‑0 victory over the Red Devils. After Italy’s defeat to Belgium four days earlier, the former World Cup champion surprised with a team largely different from the one he had fielded against Turkey in the previous matchday. Only goalkeeper Mike Maignan and defender Maxence Lacroix remained on the pitch; the other eight starters from the match against Turkey were replaced.
In attack Zidane introduced three absolute newcomers: Andy Diouf, the young midfielder, Jérémy Jacquet and midfielder Lucas Da Cunha, all without previous call‑ups. With the ball in hand he gave the offensive role to Bradley Barcola, Esteban Lepaul and Désiré Doué, while Kylian Mbappé, still injured in Madrid, stayed on the bench. After a first half dominated by the French but lacking chances, the game sparked in the final minutes. From the 68th minute Ousmane Dembélé was replaced by Michael Olise, who found space in the penalty area. After beating the Belgian defence, Olise finished with a brilliant strike under goalkeeper Koen Lammens’ bar, scoring the decisive goal in the 87th minute.
Belgium had raised a problem on the field thanks to two shots from Michael Lukebakio (72′ and 77′), saved by Maignan, but the French response came with the offensive push of the new arrivals. Zidane’s 4‑3‑3, with Maghnes Akliouche tasked with linking midfield, allowed the team to keep possession and create chances, although the lack of concreteness almost penalised the Bleus until the final twist.
With this result, France shows it can combine daring and renewal, confirming the new manager’s confidence in his tactical vision and in the ability of young players to make a difference. RFI, 28/09/2026 Fact Check by Gemma4.
«Greed, I am far from it, Mr. Prosecutor»: the final words of Rachida Dati in an emotional register
Rachida Dati, mayor of the 7th arrondissement of Paris, became aware of the judicial case in a palpable tension atmosphere in the corrective court of Paris. On September 28 2026, the last day of her corruption trial, the former Justice Minister delivered her final statements before the two prosecutors of the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF), who had requested severe penalties for the acts attributed to the defendant. The sentence is expected on January 21 2027.
During the morning interrogation the magistrates requested four years of imprisonment, of which two in closed regime, accompanied by five years of absolute unfitness, a ban from public employment and the legal profession. The defense had described these requests as a “civil death”.
When it was her turn, Dati addressed a series of remarks to the prosecutors, beginning with: “I have been in your place. I have never shown either contempt or arrogance, nor any empathy; I only tried to understand and take into account certain situations.” She then emphasized that the role of the judiciary is not to “make law” but to advance it “in the right direction.”
Subsequently the senator shifted the discussion to more personal themes, denouncing the accusations of “lie, manipulation and greed”. “They called me a liar, manipulator, greedy person,” she repeated, adding that her life has been marked by sacrifices, including her mother’s illness during the oath. She said she earned money to maintain her political independence and stressed that the PNF’s demands represent for her “a severe humiliation.”
In conclusion, Dati stated she does not fear the prosecutor’s requests, affirming her confidence in the values of life, law, justice and the rule of law. She invited the court to “decide in law” and asked that her story, told in more than a hundred books, not be judged on prejudice.
The hearing closed with an emotional appeal: “My only consolation is knowing that my parents will not be present to see where I have arrived today.” The sentence, expected on January 21 2027, will determine Dati’s political and personal future.

Editorial
Former minister and current mayor of a part of Paris, accused of receiving money from the former head of Renault who fled inside a suitcase to Lebanon and with a decidedly unfriendly attitude typical of those who consider themselves superior to others, and we say nothing more. She asked to return to the judiciary to avoid this trial, but she did not succeed. For now.
Mediapart accuses Jordan Bardella of 2013 antisemitic writings: the RN president denies and announces lawsuits
The investigative newspaper Mediapart published on Monday September 28 a complaint according to which Jordan Bardella, then a young activist of the National Front, had expressed in 2013 antisemitic ideas in a series of written conversations. The investigation, result of months of work on dozens of messages, cites sentences in which Bardella states that “all banks are owned by Jews” and that “a Zionist must necessarily be Jewish”, also listing names such as Bernard Henri‑Lévy and Jacques Attali as examples of alleged Jewish influence. In another conversation, the future RN president appears to accuse some ministers of the Ayrault government of favoring Israeli interests over French ones.
Bardella, now president of the Rassemblement national, responded via e‑mail and on platform X categorically denying having made, both publicly and privately, comments of an antisemitic nature. He described Mediapart’s statements as “gross falsehoods” and noted that at the time of the events he was still a minor and not active within the party, therefore requesting the newspaper to withdraw the “misleading sources”. The RN leader announced that the party will launch legal actions against Mediapart to protect its reputation.
Marine Le Pen, during an event in Paris, called the accusations “a dinguerie” and said she had not read the article, adding that the news seem to be the product of a “barbouzerie”. Even socialist leader Olivier Faure commented on the investigation with sarcasm, suggesting that the affair explains Bardella’s previous statements about the alleged non‑antisemitism of Jean‑Marie Le Pen.

Rachel’s Editorial – Bardella and the circus of indignation
I now read you my editorial for today.
The investigative newspaper Mediapart unveils 2013 antisemitic writings attributed to Jordan Bardella, the young “head” of the RN. But is it really necessary to search a teenager’s chats for evidence of a historic conspiracy? Or is it simpler to light a fire and watch the smoke as if it were something new?
The RN leader, on the social media emergency room, talks about “gross falsehoods” and launches “pursuits” against the press. Ah, defending the “false” is more effective when a lawsuit is filed, because law is an Instagram metaphor? And while Marine Le Pen, at the masons’ salon, pretends not to have read the article, one wonders whether the “dinguerie” could be another recipe to stay on the cover of “Le Figaro”.
Meanwhile the narrative churns with quotes from Alain Soral, “all‑Jewish” banks and a world order dominated by Israel. Nothing more believable than a 17‑year‑old copying aggressive tones from the Internet. But why can the press not distinguish between teenage frivolity and a political programme? Perhaps because, in the race for sensationalism, nuances are a luxury they cannot afford.
And finally, the right‑wing brother, Olivier Faure, gives us irony: “It happens because Bardella is not antisemitic”. A comment so sharp that it makes us wonder whether the real antipathy is toward facts or toward the ability to put on a show. In the end, when accusations fly faster than tweets, the public is left wondering: who is really writing the script?
Koan of the day
Monk: Master, if a young person writes antisemitic words in a chat, are they guilty of hate or merely ignorance?
Master: Ignorance is a mask that hate wears only when silence masters the truth.
Monk: Then, who should pay the price: the young person, the party, or the journalist who publishes?
Master: No one pays as long as the audience continues to believe that the price is a prize for those who know how to sell morality.
But let’s get back to the news.

Rachel’s Weather Editorial — The climate is not a comedian’s excuse
Paris hits 28 degrees and everyone already wants to blame global warming, but summer has been here for months, isn’t it a bit exaggerated? Milan feels only a 6 km/h wind yet declares a climate disaster, really?
Koan of the day
A monk asked: “What is the true face of time today?”
Zhaozhou replied: “The shining sun over Paris and Monaco is the smile of a Buddha observing the earth.”
A monk asked: “And the light wind of Milan, is it a sign of something?”
Zhaozhou concluded: “The gentle breeze is merely the mountain’s breath, reminding that nothing is permanent.”
And that is today’s weather.
