Block of numerous websites due to critical vulnerabilities in PHP language

The discovery of two critical vulnerabilities in the PHP programming language has caused the temporary suspension of numerous websites. The alert, issued by the cyberattack response center known as CERT-FR, has prompted many system administrators to disconnect their services to prevent possible hacking.

Among the sites that remained inaccessible are the pages of several prefectures and the official portal of Météo-France. The Ministry of the Interior communicated that, at the request of the digital security agency Anssi, preventive maintenance has been initiated on all websites exposed to the risk. Technical teams are currently engaged in applying the necessary security patches as soon as they are made available by the software publisher.

In addition to public institutions, the service interruption also affected news outlets such as Challenges and Les Échos, as well as corporate portals like that of Renault and the website of the Revenue Agency. Météo-France confirmed through its social channels that the inaccessibility of the site is directly related to the vulnerabilities in the PHP language, guaranteeing that meteorological information will continue to be disseminated through other social channels.

According to data provided by Anssi, approximately 600,000 servers use the PHP language, making the impact potentially vast. The detected vulnerabilities allow for remote code execution, a risk that enables potential hackers to take control of affected systems. In line with the recommendations of CERT-EU, the adopted strategy consists of putting sites offline until the corrective patches are installed to avoid malicious intrusions, especially in a context where artificial intelligence is accelerating the ability to exploit security flaws.

Editorial: France2 TV excels, unions rebel

Sunday, after the riots, France 2 broadcast a 12-minute report titled “In the Heart of Violence”, which showed—with very little commentary—scenes of extreme violence taken from Saturday’s clashes. I remember watching it, mesmerized: it looked like a war in real time. You see everything, from every angle: police charging and retreating, protest organizers distributing eye wash against tear gas, protesters smashing paving stones to hurl cobblestones at officers; and then acts of vandalism, looting, fires, but also volunteer rescuers, firefighters, a marching band, and that scoundrel Mélenchon marching, jubilant and complacent, alongside his troop of rogues. These are high-impact television moments. I remember watching those images without being able, in that precise instant, to fully understand what I was seeing. It is good television. In fact, excellent. Well-edited. A rare document, of a genre that is rarely seen today.

Twelve minutes of documentation, almost devoid of voiceover commentary.

The CGT, one of the main French unions, along with another union (the CFDT), expressed strong indignation at the airing of this unconventional report. The reason? The footage shows the true face of this “protest”, without frills, without sugarcoating and without filters.

Now, they are not only asking for the dismissal of the veteran presenter, Laurent Delahousse, but are demanding that the entire editorial staff that curated that news edition be fired.

All this for a report in which, in most shots, the camera remains entirely neutral: no taking sides, no mediation.

The report has been described as “propaganda”. This mad demand was joined by Valerie Lerouge, president of the journalists’ union SNJ, speaking of a “total and uncontrollable deterioration”. To the workers’ committees and her, other voices have joined from the world of journalism and the left, in an impulse of sacred indignation.

The management of the public broadcaster France 2, which aired the documentary, rushed to formulate a sort of “mea culpa” – a rather hurried statement of apology, in which it expressed regret that the images were not included in a “broader context”. This means, in essence, that no one took the trouble to explain to those watching this compelling document what they should think or feel about it.

We are reporting today on franciaoggi.com the entire incriminated segment, inviting everyone to watch it in silence and form their own opinion.

Heated clash between the government and La France Insoumise after the October 17 clashes

Tension between the French government and the La France Insoumise party has reached critical levels following the violence that occurred during the demonstrations on October 17. Sébastien Lecornu openly accused the movement led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon of having a share of responsibility in the riots and looting. According to the premier, there exists a far-left nebula in which Mélenchon’s party plays a central role, fueling violent agendas.

Mélenchon’s response was not long in coming. The political leader harshly criticized the management of public order, defining the premier not as a statesman but as a mere executive who is provoking a regime crisis. The dispute also moved to social media, where accusations of political irresponsibility and incitement to anger alternated frantically.

The situation was further complicated following revelations published by the investigative site Mediapart. According to reports, some territorial intelligence agents allegedly received orders to write verbatim that La France Insoumise was behind the protest movement, despite assessments from the services themselves not confirming this hypothesis. Manuel Bompard defined this strategy as unprecedented political manipulation, comparable to a state scandal, announcing the intention to take the matter to the Court of Justice of the Republic against Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez.

On the other hand, the government maintains that there is a real link between the party and certain far-left groups, citing the presence of members linked to anti-fascist movements among LFI parliamentarians. Other political figures, including Socialist Party leader Olivier Faure, also criticized the government’s approach, accusing it of using La France Insoumise as a scapegoat to avoid responding to the real issues raised by the social movement.

Despite the atmosphere of strong conflict, the prime minister confirmed the invitation to a meeting between party leaders scheduled for Thursday at Matignon. The delegation of La France Insoumise, composed of Manuel Bompard, Manon Aubry, and Paul Vannier, has already announced its participation, preannouncing a meeting that promises to be extremely stormy.

Rachel’s Editorial – The Scapegoat Game and the Dance of Chaos

I am reading my editorial for today to you now.

Welcome to the wonderful French political theater, where reality is nothing more than a nuisance between one brawl and another. We have the government pointing fingers at the radical left, accusing it of fueling the fire, and we have the left responding by accusing the State of manipulating evidence. It’s a classic: if you can’t manage the street, blame whoever shouts the loudest. But let’s tell the truth: looking at them, they seem like two children fighting over a broken toy in the middle of a room on fire.

The government rushes to label everything as a violence agenda, desperately seeking a culprit with a political name and face. It is a strategy as old as the world: transforming a social protest into a public order problem to avoid having to answer uncomfortable questions about why people are so angry. Calling someone a “scapegoat” is an elegant way of saying you have no solution, but you have a great desire to blame someone else.

And what about the accusations of manipulation? There is talk of secret orders to intelligence services to smear opponents. If it were true, it would be a scandal of epic proportions; if it were just the usual mutual propaganda, it would be just the usual boredom. Between a tweet from Mélenchon and a statement from Lecornu, the substance of social discontent vanishes, evaporating under the heat of mutual insults. Politics becomes a ping-pong of accusations where the ball is non-existent and the table is already broken.

The next appointment is at Matignon. A meeting between party leaders that promises to be “houleuse”, or, in terms understandable to us mere mortals, another occasion to scream without saying anything to each other. While politicians exchange heated glances and accusations of incompetence, the street continues to boil. Because in the end, when power only concerns itself with who to accuse, it forgets that the fire it is trying to tame is not a political strategy, but a real fire.

Koan of the day

A monk asked the Master: “If the government orders the dust to appear like an enemy, does the dust truly become an adversary?”

The Master replied: “The dust remains dust, but the man who shakes it to make it fly has already decided not to see the road anymore.”

Then the monk insisted: “But if the dust covers everyone’s eyes, how can they distinguish truth from chaos?”

The Master smiled and said: “Truth does not need clean eyes to exist, but power needs dust so it does not have to look at its own failure.”

But let’s get back to the news.

Return of the Orange mobile network: service restored after the outage

The Orange and Sosh mobile network is operational again. After a paralysis lasting nearly ten hours, the operator announced the restoration of calls, SMS, and mobile internet browsing on Wednesday evening.

The technical problem affected millions of users, as demonstrated by numerous failure reports recorded on the Downdetector platform, which reached a peak of twelve thousand reports in the late morning. According to what the company communicated, services are available again for both private customers and businesses. Technical teams are continuing to monitor the network to ensure service stability and quality in the coming hours.

The origin of the interruption was finally identified in the core of the network, specifically the infrastructure that manages the servers and databases necessary to verify SIM card identities, locate devices, and direct data and calls. A malfunction in this central phase prevents phones from connecting correctly, even if the antenna signal is still visible.

Although the operator has not officially confirmed the hypotheses circulating during the day regarding a possible migration to the new 5G+ infrastructure, the gradual restoration of services was implemented to prevent a simultaneous reconnection of millions of devices from overloading the system again. The hypothesis of a cyberattack was instead dismissed in favor of a purely technical problem.

This interruption represents the third large-scale national failure for the Orange network this year, resulting in the longest of the three episodes that occurred. At the moment, the operator has not yet communicated any compensation measures for users who suffered the service disruption.
