AM 1575 News — Francia24: Claudia Cárdenas lands in Caracas, Russian forces kill thirty in Kramatorsk, Weather and all the other news | October 08, 2026

Welcome to the international bulletin from FranciaOggi and Radio Centrale Milano for Thursday 08 October 2026 on FranciaOggi.com in podcasting and on Medium Waves at 1575 kHz.

From Paris I am Rachel Costa.

Venezuela: the cautious return of opposition from exile

Venezuelan authorities have cautiously welcomed the end of the long exile of some opposition leaders, including María Corina Machado, still confined in Panama. Their family members, namely Claudia Cárdenas, landed in Caracas at the end of September, where they received a reserved welcome but under close monitoring by U.S. authorities. The return, although symbolic, highlights the tensions between Washington and Caracas, with hope for dissidents to reactivate a more active political strategy against the regime.

Airstrike in Kramatorsk: at least thirty civilian casualties

Russian forces hit a crowded bus in Kramatorsk, a city in eastern Ukraine, causing the death of at least thirty people and wounding many others. The attack, which occurred in the early morning hours, was condemned by the international community as a war crime and reignited the debate on civilian protection in armed conflicts. Ukrainian authorities have promised to intensify efforts to defend the population from ongoing aggressions.

France: government releases diesel reserves to quell protests

The French energy minister announced the extraction of ten million barrels from strategic diesel reserves, a move aimed at containing the wave of protests that has seen fuel stations occupied and highways blocked. The intervention, supported by some unions, aims to tackle the rise in consumer prices, but opponents denounce the measure as a temporary response rather than a real solution to the energy‑inflation problem.

Rachel– “Ten million barrels to calm the fury of a hitchhiker”

I now read you my editorial of the day.

What a wonder to see leaders turn the treasury cellar into a peak‑hour dispenser: “Here, take ten million barrels, so people won’t have to protest anymore!” Is this really the most innovative solution or just the petroleum version of a plastic band‑age? When the problem is energy inflation, why not try to treat the cause instead of stealing from the nation’s fridge?

We wonder, however, if the measure is more a low‑cost fireworks show for the televisions. Unions applaud, but perhaps because they received an invitation to a party where the buffet is made of diesel? Or are they truly convinced that refueling stations is a promise of serenity, when people already know fuel prices are more volatile than a spin bike uphill?

The opponents, on the other hand, have the courage to call the solution “temporary”. Do they perhaps want a remedy that lasts longer than a weekend of protests, something that does not vanish at the next wave of energy bubbles? If the government has set aside diesel as if it were biscuits, why not set aside long‑term strategies, like investments in renewable energy or smarter fiscal policies?

In the end, the question that remains is: do we rely on a diesel stockpile to stop the fury of those already tired of watching their money disappear? Or do we admit that the only fuel that can truly power peace is a more honest political recipe, maybe without the noise of a four‑stroke engine?

Koan of the day

A monk asked the Master: “If the government empties the diesel reserve to calm the protests, does the people calm down or does the future’s tank empty?”

The Master replied: “The tank empties, but the sound of the protests remains, like the echo of a horn that can no longer find a road.”

The monk persisted: “Then why not fill the tank with hope instead of fuel?”

The Master smiled: “Because hope can only be measured in small sips, not in barrels, and those who drink too much risk falling into paralysis.”

But let’s return to the news.

Oil prices rise by 4 % due to Iranian attacks

Energy markets recorded a four‑percent jump in Brent and WTI prices after Iran intensified attacks on tankers in the Persian Gulf. Experts warn that the tension could spread to additional shipping routes, at a time when the United States fears a rise in rural production due to an imminent hurricane. Stock traders reacted cautiously, noting pressure on high‑energy‑intensity sectors.

The largest market of personal data for sale on the dark web

A recent investigation by BFM Business revealed that almost eighty percent of French citizens have their personal data exposed for sale on criminal networks. The information includes phone numbers, addresses and health data, all collected during the numerous cyber‑breaches of recent months. Authorities have launched an appeal to strengthen digital defenses, while companies are urged to improve their cybersecurity infrastructures.

U.S. stock market falls as Treasury yields rise

The main U.S. index recorded a decline because of rising interest rates on government bonds, which reduced investor confidence. Analysts point out that the market is losing its “cushion” of protection against the impact of climbing bond yields. In response, some portfolio managers have begun to rethink investment strategies, focusing on sectors less sensitive to interest‑rate changes.

Workday: the SaaSpocalypse is not over yet

An exclusive report by The Information examined how the human‑capital management platform is tackling the challenges of the “SaaSpocalypse”, a period of turbulence for cloud companies. Despite a recent revenue loss, Workday has launched a series of initiatives to diversify its offering, including strategic partnerships and investments in artificial intelligence. Experts forecast that the company could stabilize growth by next year, though it remains vulnerable to SaaS market dynamics.

Artificial intelligence and impact on youth employment in France

A joint study by the Bank of France and the HEC innovation faculty highlighted that hires of young people in their twenties have dropped by thirty percent over the last four years, due to growing automation. The survey warns of accelerating adoption of generative technologies, which further threaten traditional jobs. Authorities are considering support measures, including incentives for retraining and programs in advanced digital skills.

Paris – Cool and clear day

In the morning the sky over the capital is mostly clear, with temperatures around 12 °C and a light north‑northeast wind at 15 km/h, with no signs of precipitation. In the afternoon the light intensifies, temperatures rise to 16 °C, the wind remains moderate but gusts reach 40 km/h, especially from the southwest. In the evening a veil of light clouds approaches, temperature drops to 10 °C, wind calms to 10 km/h and it stays dry. The morning in Monte Carlo unfolds under a variable sky, with temperatures starting at 18 °C and a moderate 20 km/h wind from the west. Around 20:00 a more marked thunderstorm activates, rain reaches 1.5 mm, temperature is 19 °C, wind is 2 km/h from ESE and gusts stay light. Evening rain continues with another 1.5 mm, temperature falls to 18 °C, wind from SSE is 3 km/h. Night closes with residual showers, the minimum hits 16 °C, wind is very weak and total evening precipitation amounts to about 6 mm. According to expert Daniele Berlusconi of 3BMeteo, “a typical autumn for the Po Valley, nothing exceptional.”

Rachel’s Weather Editorial — “Heat from ‘climate change’” (but it was already October in the ’80s)

Paris at 16 °C, it’s not summer, it’s October. Yet news programs shout about global warming. Monaco records winds of 40 km/h, but they also had those in the ’70s, when the only alarm was the ozone hole. Milan gets 1.5 mm of rain, a drizzle among the clouds, and people call it a “climatic event”. Back then the thermometer showed the same numbers and the phrase “climate change” didn’t even exist. The alarm was different: people feared atomic cold, now they fear an unchanging sun. Sensationalist magazines have lost almost all readers, subscribers flee, because the echo of the real environmental alarm has turned into a meme. How ironic, soon we’ll have more articles on meme consumption than on actual warming.

Koan of the day

A monk asked: “What does the sky over Paris look like today?”
Zhaozhou replied: “A veil of light that reveals its coldness.”
A monk asked: “And in Monaco, the wind?”
Zhaozhou responded: “A breath that recalls the winds of the ’80s.”
A monk asked: “Milan, is it raining?”
Zhaozhou concluded: “Light drops, like memories fading.”
And that is today’s weather.
