Three radio towers of Medi 1 demolished
On October 28, 2026, three 380-meter-high towers belonging to the radio station Medi 1 were demolished using explosives. The structures were located in Salouane, near Nador and the border with Algeria, and were among the tallest constructions in Africa.
The demolition took place a few days after the permanent shutdown of the station’s longwave transmissions. According to Michel Fremy of Radio Magazine, the operation was carried out in total secrecy without any prior notice to the local population.

Radio and connected cars: the challenge of availability
At the workshop “DAB+, new frontiers of digital audio information and automotive,” held in Milan on October 29 at Intersections 2026, experts analyzed the transformation of radio in the automotive environment. Domenico Zambarelli, editor of Giornale Radio, emphasized the need to maintain editorial responsibility and news verification even through voice assistants and applications. He also illustrated the partnership with Appning to expand access to broadcasters in vehicles.
Massimo Lualdi, lawyer and journalist, distinguished between signal reception and the ability to be identified and found in digital catalogs, highlighting the role of technological intermediaries. Robert Förster, COO and co-owner of Radiozeit, presented the use of artificial intelligence for transcriptions and program searches, while Alessandro Musumeci, Marketing Manager Italy for Fiat and Abarth, illustrated advertising planning. Investors today require more precise tools to measure the contribution of audio to campaigns.

Artificial intelligence
Lawyers in Victoria increasing use of artificial intelligence
A new study conducted on 2,221 lawyers in Victoria reveals that the use of artificial intelligence has risen from 37% to 55% in the last year. Adoption is highest in sectors such as commerce (85%), banking and finance (78%), and technology (78%), while it remains lower in criminal law (29%), family law (45%), and administrative law (46%). Despite the widespread use, only 26% of professionals have reduced client fees thanks to technological efficiency, with a higher percentage among those assisting companies (34%) compared to private individuals (23%).
Researcher Georgie Rychner explained that efficiency gains are lower than expected, as in 2025, 89% of professionals stated they had adopted measures to verify the accuracy of AI-generated content. The use of AI by clients has increased the workload: 46% of lawyers report that clients arrive with imprecise or misleading information, and 41% report that clients present documents generated by artificial intelligence that require corrections.

Artificial intelligence in Italian SMEs
Only 25% of Italian micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises use artificial intelligence in daily activities, according to Ipsos research for Meta presented on October 28, 2026, in Rome. Despite the low operational use, approximately seven out of ten companies believe the technology could save time, money, or human resources. The gap is evident among micro-enterprises, where 31% have never used such tools, and larger companies, where the proportion of those who have never used it drops to 14%.
Angelo Mazzetti, public policy director for Meta in Italy, stated that SMEs represent the backbone of the Italian economy and that work is needed to bridge the technological gap. Chiara Ferrari, service line leader at Ipsos Public Affairs, observed that the results show a clear gap in preparedness, but also a strong propensity for future AI adoption.

Meta discussed a “whispered strategy” to discredit psychologist Jonathan Haidt
Legal documents reveal that Meta staff discussed a “whispered strategy” to weaken the influential American academic Jonathan Haidt. According to meeting minutes contained in a recent legal filing in the United States, the goal was to push the academic community to disavow Haidt through an underground campaign aimed at making his studies non-credible.
The documents, titled “Well-being Meeting Sound-check Notes,” cite Curtiss Cobb, then Vice President of Research of Meta, in an attempt to find ways to have the academic community turn against Haidt so that the media would question his authority. Haidt, author of The Anxious Generation, argues that the widespread use of smartphones has caused a mental health crisis in young people. He told The Verge that he was not surprised by the discussions, stating that when companies cannot challenge the evidence, they attack the messenger.

Unions against OpenAI for use of content in AI
SAG-AFTRA, WGA, and AFM have filed a legal document asking a federal judge to deny the “fair use” exemption for training OpenAI’s artificial intelligence models. The unions argue that the company is appropriating the work of middle-class and working-class people to develop its own technology through the unauthorized use of third-party content.
In the 34-page document, the unions warn that a total exemption would allow a massive transfer of value from creators to large corporations. According to the unions, unlicensed training harms the professionals behind the works and would render already negotiated agreements useless. The dispute involves OpenAI and numerous newspapers, as well as writers such as Ta-Nehisi Coates, George R.R. Martin, and John Grisham.

Finance
United States requests space for Mastercard and Citigroup
During bilateral talks in Bangkok, American officials urged China regarding market access for Mastercard and Citigroup. The United States Treasury delegation, led by Deputy Secretary Francis Brooke, met with representatives of the People’s Bank of China and the Ministry of Finance during the G20 and International Monetary Fund meetings.
The objective concerns the implementation of agreements reached between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping. While Visa has already received approval to prepare domestic clearing operations, Mastercard is waiting for authorization to operate as an independent entity. Citigroup, meanwhile, is aiming for a securities license in China, with plans to increase staff to approximately 100 employees. According to Dan Wang of Eurasia Group, these concessions signal that China is continuing to open up and that this should marginally strengthen investor confidence in Chinese securities.

And now for our French-speaking listeners, a brief recap of today’s news in French.
