The city of Nice is preparing for a Halloween night under strict surveillance. Mayor Éric Ciotti has announced the reinstatement of the curfew for minors unaccompanied by a legal representative, a measure that will take effect on the night between October 31st and November 1st.
The decision was made in close collaboration with the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes to ensure public safety during an evening that usually sees numerous gatherings in the streets. The restrictions will be in force from 10:00 PM until 6:00 AM the following morning.
Public safety and affected areas
The measure does not affect the entire city but focuses on five specific sectors that require greater attention. The areas involved are Ariane, Bon Voyage, Louis-Braille, the city center, and the Moulins district.
The stated objective of the municipal administration is to prevent possible disturbances or episodes of violence that have characterized these holidays in the past. Despite the rigidity of the measure, the city ensures that families will still be able to participate in celebrations if accompanied by an adult.
This new provision follows a previous period of restrictions that ended on Monday, October 26th. That initial device was activated following episodes of looting and violence that occurred last weekend, covering areas such as Vieux-Nice and the Trachel area.
Targeted control to prevent disturbances
Unlike the previous curfew, which began at 9:00 PM, this new municipal order provides for a slightly later start at 10:00 PM. The choice to limit the restriction exclusively to Halloween night indicates the desire to intervene in a targeted way regarding potential risks of excess.
Éric Ciotti reiterated that the city of Nice remains fully mobilized alongside State services to guarantee the tranquility of citizens. The administration will closely monitor the evolution of the evening to ensure that the festive character of the occasion does not degenerate into situations of public tension.
