Launch of the ESCO-01 coordinated listening exercise
Pedro Porres and Jorge Garzón have announced the start of ESCO-01, the first coordinated listening exercise organized by the IberiaDX group. The event, which is not a competition, will take place from Friday, November 6 at 00:00 until Sunday, November 8 at 23:59 (local time). The goal is to identify radio stations active on the spectrum, including official, unauthorized, or pirate stations.
The session will focus on British broadcasting stations on medium waves between 531 kHz and 1720 kHz. Participants may use any type of receiver or antenna, remaining confined to a specific geographic sector (grid locator) and without the ability to use remote SDRs unless the equipment is their own property. Results must be submitted via Excel, Word, or text file by 21:00 UTC on Tuesday, November 10, including full name, QTH (country), and details of the equipment used.

TAR Lazio confirms Agcom rules on Smart TVs
The TAR Lazio has rejected the appeals filed by Samsung Electronics, Google, and Anitec-Assinform against Agcom’s guidelines on the visibility of services of general interest in Smart TV interfaces. The rulings, published between November 3 and 4, 2026, confirm the legitimacy of the measures which provide for eight access points: five for national generalist services and three aggregators for national, local, and radio services.
According to the judges, the goal is to ensure pluralism and the availability of services without having to demonstrate a decline in viewership. The list, which includes over eight hundred services, does not require an independent icon for each to avoid interface confusion. The required adjustments concern software configuration, leaving manufacturers room to organize the remaining space.

Artificial Intelligence
Philippe Jaenada admits to using artificial intelligence
Philippe Jaenada, winner of the prestigious Prix Goncourt for the novel L’Inconnue du quai de Javel, told Radio France Inter that he used artificial intelligence three times during the writing process. He explained that he inserted a sentence written by ChatGPT to play with the reader, revealing what it was only to the Goncourt jurors on the day of the award ceremony, in addition to a section to ridicule the machine’s absurd responses and for research purposes. Jaenada, 62, believes that artificial intelligence cannot be stopped and must be used, recognized, and domesticated, while maintaining that it can never write a book with heart and soul.
The admission follows the exclusion of Thélyson Orélien from the prize’s longlist in September, after his book was deemed to be largely produced by artificial intelligence. Orélien had described the accusations as slander and heresy, while admitting to plagiarism in previous works. Online criticism has arisen regarding an alleged racial double standard, accusing a disparity of treatment between Jaenada and the Black writer.

Forensic technologies, global market in strong expansion
The global market for forensic technologies is in strong expansion, with a forecast of $11.59 billion for 2034. The growth is driven by the proliferation of digital evidence and the need to identify content manipulated by artificial intelligence. In Europe, the sector reached an estimated value of $1.77 billion in 2025.
In Italy, new regulations govern the dissemination of content via AI. Legislative decree 160/2026 strengthens corporate responsibilities and introduces provisions for obtaining evidence in civil proceedings. Mirko Vicenzotto, head of the new scientific investigation division at Axerta, observes that artificial intelligence makes it easier to create false content and makes doubt plausible even regarding authentic content.

Fox News records a drop in viewership during the elections
The drop in Fox News viewership during the midterm election night reflects viewer disappointment with Donald Trump and his party, following Democratic victories in the House and Senate. According to preliminary Nielsen data, the channel recorded an average of 3.882 million viewers between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM, falling behind NBC, ABC, CNN, and MSNBC, while surpassing CBS News.
Lachlan Murdoch, CEO of parent company Fox Corp, admitted to the existence of “viewer fatigue.” Trump, on the other hand, criticized the network, accusing it of spending too much time covering the Democrats and claiming the 27% drop was due to the channel’s editorial choices, using an offensive term for the Democrats.

Nexstar: revenue doubling thanks to political advertising
Nexstar’s third-quarter revenues nearly doubled, rising from $1.2 billion the previous year to $2.1 billion. The political advertising boom led to a record $1.1 billion for the full year 2026, an increase of 31% compared to the 2022 midterm cycle. The figure includes the results of Tegna, whose integration is currently blocked by a federal judge.
During the call with analysts, COO Mike Biard explained that the appeal aims to limit the scope of the legal claim regarding the merger with Tegna. As for The CW, executives predict the first profit in the fourth quarter. Although the network recorded a 9% increase in viewership, CFO Lee Ann Gliha specified that there is no certainty of profitability for the full year.

Elections in Texas, the challenge for the government heats up
The race for the Texas governorship is getting tighter according to prediction markets. Republican Greg Abbott, seeking a fourth term, has a 60% chance of victory over Democrat Gina Hinojosa, according to speculators on the Kalshi platform. On Polymarket, Hinojosa’s victory odds rose from 5% at the end of July to 39% on Monday.
The Democratic candidate, who aims to become the first Democratic governor in Texas in over 30 years, attacks the incumbent for his previous support for data center development in the state. Hinojosa is calling for an immediate moratorium on the industry until the legislature establishes rules, while Abbott, after ordering an audit in August, has suspended permit approvals for data centers pending an audit of the existing waiting list.
