Power outage in Caracas
A blackout has hit the city of Caracas, causing silence for much of the AM radio broadcasters. The interruption began at 4:40 PM local time, leaving only a few stations on the air.
According to Ruud, after about six minutes some broadcasters, including Rumbos, attempted to return to the air, sometimes without an audio signal. However, after another four minutes, most stations went out of service again. The situation was resolved at 5:00 PM when power was restored, allowing almost all AM radio stations to return.

AI and manipulated videos, election campaign in Victoria under fire
The election campaign in Victoria is being marked by the use of videos generated by artificial intelligence. The Labor Party has released a clip in which Liberal leader Jess Wilson appears to claim she has no issues with the Americanization of the healthcare system. Wilson has described the video as a “desperate smear campaign”, asserting that local healthcare is not being Americanized. Premier Ben Carroll defended the content, stating that the words are indeed Wilson’s and that every citizen should be terrified by them.
The Liberal Party responded with AI videos depicting Premier Carroll asleep at his desk. Clancy Moore of Transparency International Australia warned that deepfakes and AI-generated politicians erode trust in democracy. Researcher Timothy Koskie observed that these manipulations make arguments more convincing that, in reality, do not hold up. The Greens are now calling for the introduction of advertising truth laws similar to those in South Australia.

Milan to host the AI Olympics event on December 3rd
On December 3rd, Milan will host AI Olympics, an event organized by Alterna and Microsoft. The initiative uses the Olympic Games metaphor to illustrate the adoption of artificial intelligence in business: the cloud and Microsoft tools represent the Olympic village, Alterna acts as the coach, and companies are the athletes who must empower people to use technology to its full potential.
The focus is on the verticalization of AI agents, capable of operating on specific industry needs. Giuseppe Mascoli, Chief Executive Officer of Alterna, observes that the value of an agent grows when it understands the context, data, rules, and specificities of a sector, allowing for the construction of solutions useful to business processes that can scale sustainably. The goal is to help organizations choose relevant use cases, integrate AI into systems, and prepare people to collaborate with it.

The work behind the US elections
A team of 14 data and visual journalists from The Guardian monitored the midterm elections through live result pages and interactive analyses. The work, coordinated between New York and London, allowed for the analysis of electoral shifts related to issues such as inflation or the figure of Donald Trump, correlating real-time data with demographic and historical profiles.
Ashley Kirk, senior editor for visual journalism, explained that the goal was to understand the reasons behind the victories and the role of voters who changed their orientation. To counter potential doubts about the electoral processes, the team adopted specific design choices. Antonio Voce, an interactive journalist, confirmed that the coverage was facilitated by past experience and new technical infrastructures.

Imax grows thanks to The Odyssey record
Imax revenues rose by 64%, reaching $175 million in the quarter ended September, exceeding Wall Street forecasts. The success is driven by Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, the most profitable title in the platform’s history with $550 million collected globally so far. Following the results, shares rose 4% in early trading, marking a 40% increase since the beginning of the year.
CEO Rich Gelfond stated that what has been achieved transcends the broken records, describing what he believes to be an awakening regarding the platform’s power to impact global culture. According to Gelfond, the record margins demonstrate the strength of the business model in a world increasingly driven by artificial intelligence. The company expects to exceed its previous forecast of $1.4 billion in global revenues for 2026.

U.S. Midterm Elections: Tensions with China
The Democratic triumph in the midterm elections, with the conquest of majorities in the House and the Senate, could intensify technological competition and tensions over Taiwan. According to Scott Kennedy of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Democrats could push policy in a more aggressive direction through hearings and legislation, especially on issues of economic security and Taiwan.
George Chen of The Asia Group believes that Taiwan remains the most dangerous aspect of relations between the two powers and the area where a Democratic Congress will be more inclined to challenge Beijing. Technological competition remains central, with China aiming to develop its own technologies in response to U.S. restrictions on advanced chips. According to Chen, technology will become a source of increasing friction even if diplomacy between Trump and Xi continues cordially.

And now for our French-speaking listeners, a brief recap of today’s news in French.
