Welcome to am1575news, the news bulletin from Francia24 and Radio Centrale Milano for Wednesday, November 04, 2026, in podcasting, on medium waves and on franciaoggi.com. In the newsroom in Nice, Marco Hugo Barsotti; from Paris, Rachel Costa.
On Monday we opened with “Novembre” by Giusy Ferreri: and yes, she was a singer often celebrated by one of the geniuses of Italian pop culture, Tommaso Labranca, known as T-La (pronounced “tila”). Tommaso was also one of the main voices of Play Radio, an incredible experiment in quality radio. For this reason, we decided to dedicate a special section of our friendly site audiovisione.com to T-La, in the “T-LA” menu. Everything is worth reading.

French economy slowing down: Bank of France predicts a drop in growth
The French economy is facing a phase of strong weakening that calls into question previous official forecasts. The Governor of the Bank of France, Emmanuel Moulin, admitted that the GDP growth target set at 0.4% for the current year now appears difficult to achieve. This new assessment comes after a third quarter characterized by a decline in economic activity that has altered initial perspectives.
Current estimates indicate that to hit the 0.4% target, exceptional growth would be required in the final quarter of the year, an event deemed unlikely by experts. Insee data confirms a negative trend: GDP decreased by 0.1% in the third quarter, after stagnation in the second and a 0.2% drop in the first. France thus finds itself almost at the bottom of the eurozone rankings, surpassed only by Lithuania.
The weakness in economic growth creates significant complications for public finances, as less dynamic activity leads to lower tax revenues than expected, particularly regarding VAT and corporate taxes. If the year’s growth were to settle at only 0.2%, the risk of economic stagnation would become concrete, also affecting the labor market and social accounts.
New macroeconomic projections will be published in December, immediately after the European Central Bank’s monetary policy meeting. The updates will provide a more precise picture of the direction of the French economy, while eyes remain focused on the system’s ability to reverse the negative trend before the end of the year.

Diesel prices at the pumps, -12 cents
Diesel prices are recording a significant reduction in France, with drops that have already affected 6,000 service stations out of a total of 10,000. Minister of Commerce Serge Papin communicated that the average decrease is 12 cents, but in many retail outlets, the reduction exceeded 15 cents. This maneuver was made possible by the government’s decision to release 10 million barrels from strategic reserves to counter the tension caused by conflicts in the Middle East. The reduction is intensifying thanks to strong competition among distributors, with price cuts exceeding initial forecasts, although the future trend remains tied to the volatility of the international oil market. A doubt remains: the price was not fixed, but varied daily. Based on which day exactly did the Lecornu government make the comparison?

Editorial by Rachel – The diesel trick: a magic wand for the economy or just a placebo?
I am reading my editorial for today.
Well yes, here we are again, in the wonderful theater of good State news. Diesel is falling. Not by much: twelve cents on average, some even fifteen. Six thousand stations out of ten thousand have already raised the white flag (or rather, the green discount flag). Minister of Commerce Serge Papin, with the solemnity of someone revealing a State secret, tells us that the maneuver was made possible by the release of ten million barrels from strategic reserves. Ten million. A round number, reassuring, almost poetic.
Here, from our newsroom, the scene is a little less epic. The price of diesel, for years, has been oscillating in a band much wider than ten or fifteen cents without anyone feeling the need to summon strategic reserves or announce “a significant reduction.” Up, down, up again: it is the normal breathing of the market, not a miracle. And yet this time, here is the difference: there is a government that “releases” barrels, there is competition that “exceeds forecasts,” there is a conflict in the Middle East that justifies everything. Volatility remains, naturally. But now it has an official face and a press release.
One then asks: if prices have always danced more than what is being celebrated today, why is this time becoming front-page news? Perhaps because ten million barrels sounds better than “the market did its usual job”? Or perhaps because, in times of international tension, it is more convenient to present a fluctuation as a strategic conquest?
Credibility, as we know, is not measured in cents per liter. And while distributors compete and strategic barrels come out of hiding, the simplest question remains: when the price goes back up — and it will go back up — who will explain that that too is just “international oil market volatility”? Ah, France and its released barrels. Always a surprise.
Koan of the day
The minister releases ten million barrels.
The price falls by twelve cents.
The market, meanwhile, continues to breathe.
Where does the maneuver end and where does the wave begin?
Violence of October 17, Laurent Nuñez admits a management error
Minister of the Interior Laurent Nuñez, testifying under oath before the National Assembly inquiry commission, admitted a lack of anticipation regarding the management of the violence and looting that occurred during the demonstrations on October 17. The minister described that day as a failure, explaining that the unpredictability of the phenomenon resulted from the simultaneity of several critical events, including the presence of wild marches and the action of radical groups that overwhelmed the security apparatus. Nuñez explicitly accused the far-left of acting unusually to disturb public order, describing the activists as subjects skilled at provoking degenerations without getting arrested. During the hearing, the minister also expressed regret for the serious injuries among the population, including some students, while defending the use of intermediate weapons such as pellet launchers for context control.

Jean-Paul Enthoven wins the prestigious Renaudot prize
Author Jean-Paul Enthoven has been awarded the Renaudot prize in the essay category for his work titled Il dizionario amoroso della felicità, published by Plon. The recognition, awarded this Tuesday, November 3, sees him sharing the highest distinction with Christophe Ono-dit-Biot. This consecration comes after decades of dedication to literature and represents a very high-profile milestone in the French publishing landscape.
The event occurs in a context of very close personal ties between the author and Carla Bruni, with whom he had a relationship before meeting their son Raphaël. The bond between the singer and the Enthoven family remains evident through the relationship with little Aurélien, their son. The news of the award arrives in a climate of family affection that Bruni herself has recently testified to publicly through images depicting the complicity between the author and his nephew.

Historic turning point in the United States: Democrats conquer Congress
The mid-term election results in America outline a radically transformed political landscape. The Democratic Party achieved a crushing victory, retaking control of the Senate and the House of Representatives, in what commentators are calling a true blue tsunami that has swept away the Republicans. Significant successes were seen in previously considered rocky states, such as Texas, where James Talarico’s victory in the Senate marks a historic moment for the party.
Trump defeat and markets, the news shakes global finance
Donald Trump’s electoral defeat has shaken international financial markets. Investors are reacting to the news of the Democrats’ return to power, with government bond yields falling as operators seek refuge in the safety of bonds. The Democrats’ economic policy, which emphasizes the regulation of data centers, seems to have already begun to influence expectations in the technology sectors.
While President Trump acknowledges that factors such as the conflict in Iran and rising fuel prices have weighed on his camp, experts observe how the new Democratic majority could slow the expansion of infrastructure related to artificial intelligence. This scenario of uncertainty is driving capital toward more stable assets.
Technological war and bets on artificial intelligence
The semiconductor and artificial intelligence sector is experiencing a phase of strong volatility. While AMD reports a surge in its stock thanks to nearly doubled revenues in data centers, the entire technology sector is undergoing pressure from new U.S. political dynamics.
The uncertainty related to the elections is hitting companies that invest heavily in digital infrastructure hard, as the new Democratic administration could impose stricter restrictions on the growth of data centers.
Binance: cyberattack and loss of billions of dollars
The crypto world giant, Binance, has suffered a cyberattack that caused the loss of 6.3 billion dollars. Hackers used a sophisticated technique based on fake job interviews supported by artificial intelligence to deceive technical personnel.
Salesforce and AI, the company acquires startup Cresta
Salesforce announced the acquisition of the startup Cresta for 2.7 billion dollars, continuing its aggressive acquisition strategy in the field of artificial intelligence applied to contact centers.
The operation takes place in a context of frenzy for technological consolidation, where large companies seek to integrate new tools to automate business processes and maintain competitiveness in a rapidly evolving market.
Nvidia: between trade restrictions and new markets
Nvidia finds itself at the center of a delicate geopolitical challenge regarding export controls to China. The company is encouraging its cloud customers to diversify their client portfolios to mitigate risks related to trade restrictions.
The company’s strategy is intertwining with the use of its own influence to shape technology policies in Washington. While pressure on chip exports increases, Nvidia is seeking to maintain its dominant position through more careful management of relationships with international partners, especially in a climate of growing tension between the United States and China.
New frontiers in the robot and robotics sector
Meta has revealed the development of a humanoid prototype in collaboration with a Chinese startup, marking a step forward in its robotics strategy.
Climate change and fires, United Kingdom increases vulnerability
Prince William has issued a warning about the increasing vulnerability of the United Kingdom to the risks of wildfires caused by climate change.
